RxWriter is a Surescripts® Solution Provider, certified for prescription routing (new scripts and renewals), prescription benefits (formularies), and medication history. Surescripts® is the nation’s largest e-prescribing network, routing more than one billion electronic prescriptions annually and representing a majority of all eligible prescriptions in the United States.
Surescripts certification (NCPDP 2017071) covers the full workflow — from writing the prescription to routing it to the pharmacy — and ensures compatibility with the national e-prescribing infrastructure.
PracticeStudio is certified for Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) under DEA regulations (21 CFR 1311). EPCS allows providers to electronically prescribe Schedule II–V controlled substances, eliminating paper prescriptions and reducing fraud and diversion risk.
EPCS requires two-factor authentication for every controlled substance prescription. PracticeStudio’s EPCS implementation is integrated with IdenTrust for identity proofing and credential issuance.
PracticeStudio uses IdenTrust for two-factor authentication (2FA) required by EPCS regulations. IdenTrust provides DEA-compliant identity proofing and mobile token credentials, satisfying the two-factor authentication requirement for controlled substance prescribing.
The IdenTrust mobile token is installed on the provider’s smartphone and generates a time-based one-time password (TOTP) for each controlled substance prescription. This meets DEA requirements for logical access controls under 21 CFR 1311.
PracticeStudio supports certified bidirectional HL7 interfaces with more than 100 laboratory partners. Lab orders flow out of the chart and results flow back in automatically — no manual re-entry, no faxed reports, no data translation errors.
HL7 interface support covers order transmission, result delivery, and result acknowledgment. Interfaces are tested and certified for each individual lab partner and maintained through software updates.
